Elephant GarlicGrower: Plentygood Farm
Price: $6.00 ( 1 pound of cloves (10-15 per bag) )Available (Exact): 3
Elephant Garlic -Allium ampeloprasum is in the onion family, is not a true garlic but can be used similarly. Saute', add to sauces, roast in the oven, eat raw in salads, and even ferment it.
The taste is garlic like but about 1/3 milder than true garlic, and easier on the stomach for those who cannot tolerate true garlic.
Elephant garlic, as all garlics are often planted in late fall and left to overwinter in the ground. When spring comes they are ready to spring to life and can be harvest about mid-June.
If planted in early spring, set in ground even if cold, nestling the bulb about 2" inches below the soil level. Cover with a mulch if available and harvest in later summer.
Where we go for larger bulb size we break off the flowering stem, called a scape and saute these as well. If you want to have a spectacular flower instead leave the scape and you will also attract bees and other pollinators. Rising 3-4 feet above the ground these flowers are eye catching and beautiful!
As always anything we offer is grown in our deeply fertile soils without any harsh chemicals or pesticides

Rose of SharonGrower: Rutherford Farm (Certified Naturally Grown)
Price: $15.00 ( one plant )Available (Exact): 5
Rose of Sharon "trees" (Hibiscus syriacus) are actually classified by botanists as shrubs, but they can be trained by pruning so as to form one main trunk (thereby becoming tree-like). They are beautiful plants and especially useful to gardeners seeking continual color in the landscape, as they bloom late in the growing season when most shrubs are long past their floral heyday. Plant Hibiscus syriacus as a complement to shrubs that bloom in spring and early summer.
Grow rose of Sharon trees as follows:
Install them in full sun. They tolerate partial shade but will not flower as well there.
Give them rich soil and keep it evenly moist.
Provide a soil pH that is acidic to slightly alkaline.
Most rose of Sharon trees grow to be about 8 to 10 feet tall, with widths of half that. The trees can make for a splendid hedge when in bloom if it is color you want from a hedge. But, being deciduous, they will not screen out prying eyes year-round. Another use for rose of Sharon is as a specimen plant for late summer. Flowers are most often white, pink, bluish, or bi-colored. But, through grafting, there are even varieties that bear multiple colors on the same plant.

Tuberose Bulbs Medium SizeGrower: Plentygood Farm
Price: $15.00 ( One pound (15-20 bulbs) Growers favorite )Available (Exact): 1
Nutritional InfoThe Tuberose flower is ranked 6th in the world for fragrance! When I am at the market people will tell me they can smell these flowers a block away.
They do not bloom until late July/early August but are well worth the wait. Being night scented the fragrance emanates from the flowers starting around 7PM in the evening and lasting through the night. The fragrance will then go down once daylight arrives, only to again grace us with that incredible scent the next evening. What's remarkable is that this happens even when you cut the stem and bring the flowers indoors.
Vase life on the cut stems is from 1 to 2 weeks long. If you start with a sparkling clean vase, change the water every day and clip a little off the stem you can get the longest vase life.
Medium bulbs are robust but smaller than the large and typically produce 1-2 stems the first year. They average 15-20 per pound.
